Trinity Records, in anticipation of their studio reissue on October 20, has quietly assembled a panel including Jordan Zabih.

With many respected musicians being reluctant or just not present due to a recent string of accusations and protests, but also due to the ongoing Crips connection to Nas and others, the one-time home to the revered early Crips sound is a town synonymous with the warping and chaotic sounds of hardcore rap.

A strong recent thread of commentary in both online and print outlets has created a series of connotations both positive and negative surrounding the emergence of hip hop as a major part of the music industry's future. The negative include both in the mainstream and popular music media, from “bad hip hop” to public figures and academics, and music execs most responsible for the appearance of the genre.

Music artists appearing in many magazines, such as BMI, have been heavily criticized in recent years and often described as using rap, explicitly or implicitly, as one of their main musical and visual means to stand out:

"Rap played a central role in developing genres like soul and funk, as rap music was a main inspiration for these genres. As the new major artists of the past few years switched to hip hop or rap music every day on their music, they have shown various attempts at increasing their visibility and musical freedom."

"The rap genre is basically the main music genre produced by rappers after they are influenced by another artist."

"The genre's most celebrated artist is the rapper Jay-Z... At the MTV Awards... he just had to come out as a rapper, and that became a hit."

"Rap and hip hop have grown through music created through the use of recording equipment and a format that evolved into audio through the growing popularity of CDs."

There also exists a tradition of music executive artists of note being named merely as "an entertainer." For example, Bobby Kennedy's frequent company executives, the names of which are never mentioned or attributed to a specific artist because of the precedent established, have become "consultants" who “preside over” recording sessions instead of directly involved in the music itself. He may also be described as a "music executive" or a "media spokesman.
