Joan Specht of Peacock Funeral Home passed away on February 5, 2017. She was 99. Joan was born in Berlin, Germany to Austrian parents. She and her family resided in Berlin before moving to Eau Claire, Wisconsin. She was in charge of family nursing, food services and managed of home, church and volunteer services.

Joan had a long and active life.

She joined Germany's Royal Academy of Applied Arts in 1918. She married William Specht at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in 1935. Together, they moved to Chicago, Illinois.

Jan was a member of the German Freemasons Lodge and retired from the University of Chicago after serving as the Vice President of the German Association of Chicago.

Her husband, William, joined the German Army through the Free German State. He died before he reached his eighteenth birthday.

Joan was also able to celebrate her retirement with her seven grandchildren, along with many nieces and nephews. Her favorite memories were of the golf course and the game they played as a family.

In her letter of introduction to those living in Peacock Funeral Home, Joan stated that she hoped more people would make the visit there because of the wonderful programs and the friendly staff.

A memorial service will be conducted via a private family memorial service with The Merle Rose Church of the Good Shepherd of the Hills, 10421 W. Memorial Drive, Eau Claire, WI 54701.

Harriett Specht died on January 24, 2017. She was 92. Harriett was born in Berlin, Germany on January 6, 1923, the daughter of the late Ed and Esther (Neuss) Specht. Harriett died peacefully on Wednesday in New Berlin Wisconsin.

Harriett was a proud mama of four children; two daughters, Doris and Mary Ann, and two sons, Bob and Gary.
