Dr. Leanne Hebert Longwell

Project Head (Clinical Biochemistry, Clinical Chemistry)

Dr. Hebert was born in the southern state of Louisiana. She has worked in and around several specialty areas for the past 30 years. Dr. Longwell has been a member of the OMRP, The Joint Commission, and The American Heart Association; and is currently serving as an adjudicator for the National Heart, Blood and Lung Institute. A mother and in many cases, grandmother, Dr. Longwell is on the faculties of three national schools of medicine: Texas Women’s Medical College; University of Arizona School of Medicine; and Texas Loma Linda University. She has chaired a variety of committees, including Clinical Prog, Pulmonary Disease, Pulmonology. She has received funding through career development grants from the National Institutes of Health, Cancer Prevention Research Institute, Fondren Family Fund, Tobacco-Related Diseases Research Consortium, and the Oncology Foundation, as well as awards and positions from the Commission on Cancer, Office of Research, Dr. Hebert has contributed to publications, as well as presentations, within both the United States and abroad. She has served as a reviewer for the Society of General Internal Medicine and the European Respiratory Society. She has been a member of the advisory board for the American Thoracic Society, as well as serving as an Adjunct for the American Thorax Society and American Society of Clinical Pathology. She has been part of the teams at the Texas Women’s Medical Center, UTHealth, and Baylor College of Medicine where she has assisted with various projects such as performance of immunohistochemical (IHC) staining, quantification of IHC, and assessment of immunosuppression. Her research interests include the immunohistochemistry of tumor biopsies, immunosuppression, autologous cell-based therapies, whole tumor immunotherapy, radiotherapy, prostate cancer, pancreatic cancer, and hematological cancers. For the past thirteen years, she served the Cardiothoracic Surgical Services at the Texas Women’s Medical Center and collaborated with Dr. Robert Bates to develop and maintain a quality control system that included the collection of data for patients being considered for cardiothoracic surgery. She has been an Independent Review Board (IRB) member since 2008.
